The planet upon which Iiosia is set is very old; Iiosia is but one Era that makes up it's entirety. Although we are largely unconcerned with the pre-histories and the formation of the planet as a life-sustaining system, the Eras prior to and post Iiosia do have an effect on the development of the whole world.
The planet Iiosia is set apart by three major Eras which are separated by world changing events. The first of these Eras is called Tae’lummisae (The Age of Wonder), the second is Iiosia, and the third is Alderon.
The Three Eras
Era Timeline - A brief summary of the events that lead to the world altering through the Eras, which are each covered in more detail in the pages below.
Tae’lummisae - The Age of Wonder, where the world was largely at peace and ruled by the dwarves, atia and tar'tchii.
The Great War and the Sundering - This Era ends due to a cataclysmic war, at the end of which it the world is literally ripped apart during events which are referred to as The Sundering
Iiosia - after the events of The Sundering, corrupting Dark magic seeps into the world and alters many of the races, creating a widely diverse world largely saturated in magic, hostilities, and strife. The Iiosia Era lasts for some 4,500 years, although only the last 1,500 years or see Iiosia developed into the world described in this site and is used as the setting for books and games

Alderon - The end of Iiosia is marked
by the eradication from the world. This results in the slow but steady
decline of almost all of the peoples of the planet. Only the humans remain, developing technologies and
taming the world until events reminiscent of the The Sundering occur and
plunge
the world back into chaos and magic once again.
